Petite Aubique Fig

Petite Aubique, also called Aubique Petite, is a small fig with dark, often black skin carrying a fine blue bloom, which can develop white longitudinal cracks when fully ripe. Figs typically weigh up to about 30 grams. The flavor is sugary and sweet with a distinct berry-like character, sometimes with cherry notes, especially when the fruit is allowed to shrivel or dry slightly on the tree. Growers who have compared it directly report it ripening in around 84 days from fruit set, roughly mid-season. Some growers and collectors consider it very closely related to, or possibly genetically identical to, Violette de Bordeaux (Negronne) — DNA comparisons some have referenced group them together — though it is grown and sold as its own named variety. It has a reputation as a reliable, widely adaptable variety recommended for a range of climates.
