Anne Raspberry

Anne was developed through a cooperative breeding program spanning the University of Maryland, Rutgers University, Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University's Southern Piedmont Agricultural Research and Education Center, and the University of Wisconsin, from a cross made in 1989 and released under US Plant Patent #10,411, generally cited as 1998. It became one of the more popular yellow-fruited raspberry varieties specifically because it combines the pale golden color of a yellow raspberry with genuinely large, firm, sweet fruit that many tasters describe as carrying hints of apricot or banana alongside the classic raspberry flavor. Its tall, upright canes sucker only sparsely, which means growers need to plant at higher density than with more aggressively spreading varieties, and it shows resistance to Phytophthora root rot, though it remains more susceptible to leafhoppers and rust than some competing varieties.
