Capoll Curt Negra

Capoll Curt Negra is a Spanish variety from the same Montserrat Pons collection in the Balearic Islands that produced the Coll de Dama family — its name roughly translates from Catalan referencing a "short neck," distinguishing its shape from the longer-necked Coll de Dama figs from that same regional tradition. It has been described by respected collectors, including at a notable fig tasting, as among the very best-flavored figs available, with one prominent grower reportedly calling it the "King of Figs." The tree is notably vigorous, sometimes needing to be cut back more than once in a season to control growth. The fruit is medium to large (roughly 50-65 grams), round, with a purplish-brown to purple exterior that develops distinctive cracking as it ripens, and a bright red, jammy interior. The flavor is intensely sweet with prominent berry notes, sometimes described as bordering on an orange-like sweetness distinct from other figs tasted alongside it. It does not require pollination, produces one crop, and is considered a genuinely rare, highly sought-after variety within the collector community.
