Che (Maclura tricuspidata), also known by real alternate names including mandarin melon berry, storehousebush, silkworm thorn, and cudrang, is related to the mulberry family and native to East Asia. Its real historical significance in China is reflected in place names: the Tanzhe Temple west of Beijing takes its name directly from this tree. Beyond its fruit, which can also be fermented into wine, the plant has documented traditional uses beyond eating fresh.
