Coolidge Feijoa

Coolidge is a genuinely historic feijoa variety, one of the earliest named cultivars available anywhere, documented in the 1913 catalog of the Coolidge Rare Plant Gardens in Pasadena, California. Along with Choiceana and Superba, Coolidge was among the very first feijoa varieties exported to New Zealand, where — grown initially more as an ornamental landscape plant for its attractive foliage and flowers than for its fruit — it became one of the direct genetic sources for later, improved New Zealand cultivars: Mammoth and Triumph, both also documented in this database, were selected from Choiceana seedlings, part of the same early California-to-New Zealand lineage that Coolidge represents.
