Exquisito

Exquisito is a relatively new variety, credited to a California grower and forum contributor known as Doug (the same collector associated with discovering Angelito), popularized within the American fig-collecting community. It is a common (self-fertile) variety notable for an unusual trait: it can bear a breba crop and two genuinely distinct main crops in a single season, each with a different appearance and flavor. The first crops shift within days from green, to a rimada-striped pattern, and finally to pitch black with a distinctive starry white-dotted exterior when ripe, delivering a "fruit cocktail" flavor. A later third crop, ripening as late as December in some climates, takes on a smoky gray-green-purple exterior and is specifically noted for a banana/strawberry-yogurt flavor. Growers report it is notably split-resistant and productive even in young trees.
