Flanders Fig

Flanders was bred and formally released in 1965 by Ira Condit, the fig researcher and taxonomist behind the standard reference monograph on fig varieties still cited by collectors today. It is a medium-sized, yellow fig with violet striping and amber pulp, pyriform in shape with a long, slender neck. According to fig grower Ray Givan's notes, the variety is vigorous but not considered especially hardy, produces a good breba crop, and ripens its main crop late in the season. It is well adapted to California's south coast and San Joaquin Valley growing regions, and has been noted by growers as deserving wider trial in Southern growing conditions as well.
