Green Michurinska

Green Michurinska was discovered by a Bulgarian collector known in the fig-growing community by the forum name Penandpike (also called simply "Pen"), reportedly a Bulgarian blueberry farmer, who found a large mother tree growing unprotected in Bulgaria's cool climate — some sources specify the city of Plovdiv. He first shared it publicly on August 18, 2015, naming it Green Michurinska because he thought the fruit resembled another cold-hardy variety, Michurinska-10 — though the two were later confirmed to be genetically distinct, unrelated varieties despite the similar name. The fruit has green to yellow-green skin and dark red to strawberry-amber flesh, with a pronounced strawberry-berry flavor similar to the broader Adriatic-type figs it is often compared to. It is notably productive, rain-resistant, and split-resistant, and ripens earlier than many other Adriatic-type figs, making it a favorite recommendation specifically for growers in humid or shorter-season climates who want that Adriatic flavor profile without the later ripening timing. It does not require pollination and can produce two crops.
