Greenriver Belle is a wild selection found near the Green River in Hart County, Kentucky, in 1998 by a collector named Carol Friedman. It was introduced and sold through Peaceful Heritage Nursery, and is genuinely praised by name by two of the most respected figures in modern pawpaw breeding, Neal Peterson and Ron Powell, both of whom cite it among their favorite cultivars for its flavor — a real, notable endorsement given Peterson's own standing as the breeder behind the Peterson Pawpaw line documented elsewhere in this database. The fruit is medium-sized with a firmer texture than many other cultivars, giving it good shipping potential, and a clean flavor without bitterness or unpleasant aftertaste, with some tasters noting a light cinnamon note.
