Halvin Pawpaw

Halvin was a wild seedling found and selected by growers Tyler and Danae Halvin in southwestern Iowa, near Bedford — the original tree was growing in forest understory and reached roughly 40 feet tall. It is now distributed as a named clone through nurseries in both the United States and United Kingdom. The fruit is notably large (roughly 225-400 grams), very sweet without unpleasant aftertaste, with pineapple and banana-mango notes and smooth, creamy flesh. It genuinely ripens about three weeks earlier than many other varieties, a real practical advantage for growers at the northern edge of pawpaw-growing range or in short-season climates like the UK. It should not be confused with "Halvin's Sidewinder," a separate selection from the same growers.
