Invicta Gooseberry

Invicta was bred at the East Malling Research Station in England, from a cross of Careless and the hybrid Whinham's Industry × Resistenta, introduced in 1967. It won the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit, and is documented as genuinely resistant to American gooseberry mildew, a real practical advantage that helped make it one of the most widely planted gooseberry varieties in Britain. The bush is notably vigorous and reliably heavy-cropping, described by more than one grower as producing roughly twice the yield of other green gooseberry varieties. The fruit is large, pale green, best known as a cooking and preserving variety rather than for fresh eating, typically ripening in early June.
