Iranian Candy began life as an unidentified ("Unk") fig import from Iran, distributed among American collectors under a working name referencing its unknown origin. After several years with no one able to identify a prior established variety name for it, collectors settled on the name Iranian Candy — a real, documented example of how an "Unk to New Name" renaming genuinely happens in the fig-collecting community, rather than a fabricated marketing story. Some growers still prefer to call it by its earlier working name, Raasti Northern Persian (or Raasti Persian), specifically to avoid what they see as an overly promotional replacement name. The fruit is notably early-ripening and productive, with a sweet but not especially complex flavor; growers report the skin is soft and prone to absorbing moisture, making it more prone to spoilage in wet or humid climates despite not splitting much, and better suited to drier growing regions.
