LSU Gold Fig

LSU Gold is part of Louisiana State University's fig breeding program, grown by Gulf South collectors who note, based on direct growing experience, that it particularly needs long, hot summer weather to develop its best flavor, similar to the Texas-bred Alma fig, and is not typically recommended for growers in cooler Northern climates. It is a large, juice-filled fig that becomes waterlogged easily in excess rain, making it well suited to preserves in wet years, while remaining very sweet even then. I was not able to find a confirmed release date or named breeder for this specific variety beyond its general LSU program origin.
