Middletown Pawpaw
✓ VerifiedUnited States
Middletown is genuinely historically significant: according to breeder Neal Peterson's own published research on pawpaw variety history, more than 50 pawpaw cultivars were named between 1900 and 1950, and of that entire generation, only two — Middletown and Sweet Alice, also documented in this database — remain in cultivation today, making Middletown a real, direct link to the earliest documented era of American pawpaw selection. Long-term Missouri variety trials found Middletown among the smaller-fruited cultivars tested but noted it as a genuinely later-ripening selection, useful for extending the pawpaw harvest window.
