PA Golden Pawpaw

PA Golden is genuinely a family of four separate, individually numbered selections — PA-Golden 1 through PA-Golden 4 — all found by breeder John Gordon from trees growing in Pennsylvania and catalogued together in 1986; PA-Golden #4 is by far the most common of the four sold commercially today, and most nursery listings under the simple name "PA Golden" are referring specifically to that selection. The fruit ripens relatively early for a pawpaw (making it well suited to regions with cold winters and short growing seasons), is known for abundant yields of 25 to 50 pounds from a mature tree, and has a rich, extra-sweet, classic strong pawpaw flavor with a creamy, watery golden pulp — though its soft texture means it does not store well and is best eaten within a few days of picking.
