Sollies Fig

✓ Verified
Also known as: Figue de Solliès, Violette de Sollies, Parisienne
Solliès-Pont, Provence, France (traditional)

Sollies refers to the officially recognized "Figue de Solliès" tradition — the same variety documented elsewhere in this database under Bourjassotte Noire and Violette de Sollies — centered on Solliès-Pont in France's Var department. Fig cultivation is believed to have reached this Mediterranean coastal region as early as the 6th century BC via Phocaean Greek navigators, and the variety developed real commercial identity around Solliès-Pont from the 19th century onward under the market name "Parisienne." The fruit is violet with black veins, dense and firm, with glossy, juicy dark red flesh and a scent reminiscent of red fruits like watermelon and strawberry.
