Sweet Alice is genuinely historically significant: according to breeder Neal Peterson's own published research on pawpaw variety history, more than 50 pawpaw cultivars were named between 1900 and 1950, and of that entire generation, only two — Sweet Alice and Middletown, also documented in this database — remain in cultivation today. The fruit is medium-large, a prolific bearer, with yellow flesh and good flavor.
